Baby oh baby

by plantgirl on June 14, 2008

Thought I would post while I still can … I am now 38 weeks (as of tomorow) pregnant - and my ability to bend has vanished. My beets are almost ready, and there has been consistent cold weather here in Utah (where are you summer??) which means that my spring plants are still doing good. Am glad I don’t have to worry about them - if I had a regular garden at this point it would be overrun with weeds and dying off - but with my Square foot garden I can abandon it for a bit and not worry. (Not a single weed or pest found!!)

My midwife says I am good to go for labor - all I need are some contractions. I am ready to not be pregnant anymore - and to meet my baby - not so sure about the 2 year old and a newborn part though. :)
Anyone have any good tips to get labor going?
Please share in comments!! And if I don’t post for awhile - that means the baby has come - wish me luck!!

Good luck with your new baby! My experience is that none of the recommended ways of starting off labour actually work (tried going for really long walks, eating spicy foods, etc. etc.), so I wouldn’t bother - let it happen when the baby’s ready. Sounds like the weather is being kind to you anyway - the last thing you want is a heat wave when you’re heavily pregnant!

Well, I am a labor and delivery nurse. I truly believe if you’re gonna go into labor you will, and if you’re not — well, you won’t.
Most things that people do just cause a lot of pain, but not the right kind.
The only thing I know our midwives recommend is lots and lots of doing the thing that got you into this….

No advice, I’m afraid, but I wish you lots of luck.

Oh good luck with your new baby!! I don’t have any babies, so I can’t impart any wisdom, but I hope its a healthy and lovely baby. Be sure to post pictures if you feel up to it after the babe’s born.

Cam’s grandmom lives in Salt Lake City. I love Utah! Every time I go there, it’s just lovely. I love how the snow doesn’t turn to ice either. I love it there!

Well, I can relate if not help, I’ve got a 4 year old and 2 year old, so I fondly recall that time. It’s insane, that’s for sure. And don’t expect much sleep (not that you likely had any the first time around). I’d say my 4 year old is more jealous now than he was with an infant. He was too busy being a helpful big brother. Now it’s MY STUFF and I HAD IT FIRST (yeah that loud). Hehe.

While I agree that starting labor is not something you can push, we had a couple of things that helped my wife. First it helps being prone to pre-term labor. Both our kids were early and fast. Secondly, our first came 12 hours after walking all day at a home show. The next didn’t seem to care that we walked around the halls of the hospital for hours.

Best of luck and enjoy the time. Engage the elder sibling and let them help mommy. Take care!
