The heat of the summer is fully here - and although some of my sfg squares are empty most are full. The strawberries that didn’t produce all June are finally fruiting - and the June-bearers are done. The beets seem to be doing good but I am having a hard time telling them apart from the swiss chard. Beets should be ready for eating soon and I can’t wait - it’s taken forever!! My tomato plants bottom leaves have been dying and turning yellow but the Radiator Charlie plant is starting to blossom, and the Cherokee purple and other one (name I can’t remember) are producing tasty little morsels. Hubby’s are doing great in the upside down tomato planter - though growing up instead of down - which is really funny.
I did some maintenence today for the first time since having my baby - a few little weeds, picked off dead leaves, and decided to look for some type of organic fertilizer to help the stragglers. Any ideas?
That’s all for now - baby is waking so will have to post pictures later.
ps: any suggestions on my struggling tomatoes with the yellow leaves?

Hi PG
Re: Yellowing leaves
Is it just the leaves or is the whole plant affected?
Are the plants wilting?
Do the leaves have any spots on them?
Idea #1
If you’ve had a lot of rain recently this could be causing the lower leaves to go yellow.
The plant roots get waterlogged and so the plant can’t get the nutrients from the soil. Remove the yellowing leaves and monitor the plants as things dry out.
Idea #2
Take care when watering. I mulch with straw around the bottom of the plants to prevent leaf splash. Water early morning if possible.
Idea #3
It could be Magnesium deficiency.
Epsom salt is a source of Magnesium.
To make a solution of Magnesium Sulfate for your plants:
Dissolve 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt in 1 gallon of water.

Hi!
I wish my strawberries were coming in like yours. Congrats again on the baby. I look forward to seeing pictures!
Mick - it’s been majorly hot and dry so can’t be rain… drip irrigation system waters roots only so can’t be watering… so maybe its the magnesium deficiency. I’ll try that! Thanks for your help.
DP - still need to put pics up!
